Under the direction of former principal lead dancer with Lord of the dance and qualified TCRG Patrick McCarthy. Patrick hails from Belfast, Ireland. Over his long career Patrick has won his regional championships (Ulsters) on numerous occasions and has placed top three in every major competition worldwide. Patrick also spent five years touring globally with Michael Flatleys Lord of the Dance and during this time performed both male principal positions. After a long and varied competitive and professional career Patrick has turned his attention to teaching and has decided to share his vast knowledge of Irish dance with the families and children of Texas. Also part of the teaching staff at Inishfree Austin is world medal holder Pierce Beach. Pierce has also won his regional championships in this very region as well as representing the USA at World Championships. The aim of the Inishfree School in Austin is to provide the community with the chance to partake in this beautiful Irish art form. All levels, abilities and ages are catered for and children and adults from all walks of life are welcome to participate. Classes include instruction in basic to advanced soft shoe and hard shoe dancing as well as team dancing. HILL COUNTRY HIGHLAND DANCERS
Highland dancing is the oldest Scottish dance form. The Highland Fling and Sword Dance date back to the Middle Ages and have a ritual, war-like character. In the eighteenth century, Highland dancing was influenced by ballet, giving a graceful, feminine character to dances like the Seann Triubhas and the Scottish Lilt. Vigorous dances like the Sailor’s Hornpipe and the Irish Jig were borrowed from neighboring cultures, but are mainstays at Highland games and performances.
Susanna Ross founded the Hill Country Highland Dancers in 1980. Susanna’s student Mike Downer now teaches and directs the group. The Hill Country Highland Dancers compete in Highland games at all levels and perform at events throughout central Texas. Our dancers range in age from 8 to .... well, let’s just say “over 40”. We are always looking for new dancers who enjoy the companionship, exercise and fun that Highland dancing offers. If you or your child would like to try it, check out our web site:

AUSTIN SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCE SOCIETY
Join the children's demonstration team of the Austin Scottish Country Dancers on Sunday afternoon for traditional Scottish social dancing. Enjoy watching and participating in lively jigs and reels and elegant strathspeys, all danced in a social and team-oriented atmosphere. The group offers adult's and children's classes weekly for all levels of dancers, as well as hosting periodic social events. We can also help you host an evening of dancing for your own party, suitable for any participants. You don't have to be Scottish and you don't have to bring a partner to enjoy Scottish country dancing. More information at www.austinscd.org or call Sarah at 512-327-2869.
